Whoops, hit a cop car

J.K. Perry

AVON – Jose Luis Ibarra inched in his car toward the Avon police cruiser.Officer Jonathan Lovins watched from a distance in the early morning of April 2 as 21-year-old Ibarra crept closer to a fellow officer’s car parked in the Buck Creek Plaza on West Beaver Creek Boulevard, Lovins’ report shows. The officers were there to perform a bar check at Agave, a restaurant and bar.Ibarra stopped, missed the car and pulled forward. Then he backed up, even faster than before, and collided with the cruiser, causing moderate damage, Lovins wrote.Lovins confronted Ibarra, who displayed signs of intoxication.”Jose got out of the car and could not stand without stumbling,” Lovins wrote. “Jose displayed bloodshot, watery eyes, a pale face, used the car for support to get out, was stumbling and had a heavy odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.”Lovins kept Ibarra from falling, and the officer couldn’t administer a sobriety test because of “safety concerns.”Ibarra was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and unsafe backing and taken to the Eagle County jail.Staff Writer J.K.
