William Moran, a longtime Vail Valley local, passed away at his home in Gypsum on Jan. 3.

Moran was born Aug. 7, 1931, and was raised in Spotswood, NJ. He joined the Navy in 1950 and later attended Rutgers University. After graduating in 1959, he worked in Georgia, Canada and Denver.

Moran moved to Vail in 1979 to work for Vail Associates during the beginning of Beaver Creek. He later worked for the Vail Daily newspaper.



In 1981, Moran married Ruth Eggers, owner of The Stitchery in Vail. That same year, the couple moved up Gypsum Valley.

Moran is preceded in death by his two sons, Mark and Todd Moran. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Moran; brothers John Moran, of Arizona, Tommy Moran, of Colorado, and Richard Moran of New Jersey; son William Moran, of Atlanta; daughter Michelle Moran, of Evanston, Wyo.; grandsons William, Mark and Henry Moran, of Atlanta; eight step-children; and 16 step-grandchildren, including Cameron and Tiffany Martin, of Vail.
