AVON, Colorado ” Vin48 restaurant in Avon is hosting winemaker Steve Doerner, of Cristom Vineyards in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, at a special wine tasting this evening. The tasting will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the restaurant’s balcony lounge.

“We wanted Steve to come in because we believe in his wines and have been pouring his Mt. Jefferson Cuvee Pinot Noir this winter wth great response,” said Greg Eynon, owner of Vin48.

Located in Oregon’s Eola Amity hills, Cristom Vineyards cultivates eight distinct vineyards growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Viognier and Syrah totaling 65 plantable acres. The vineyards are dry farmed with the focus on quality fruit with low yields and high density planting. Doerner uses old World winemaking techniques ” whole clusters, native yeast fermentation and gentle and minimal handling ” letting the land make the wine. Doerner will focus on his pinots, and will be pouring:

– 2007 Mt. Jefferson Cuvee Pinot Noir

– 2006 Eileen Vineyard Pinot Noir

– 2006 Jesse Vineyard Pinot Noir

– 2006 Sommers Reserve Pinot Noir

“The single vineyard pinots are named for family matriarchs,” according to http://www.cristomwines.com. “The six ladies’ each have natural variances in soil and elevation, and the grapes they nurture were selected to highlight each vineyard’s distinct attributes. People often identify a favorite among Cristom’s ‘six ladies,’ recognizing that each nurtures a style and flavor all her own.”

Chef/owner Charles Hays’ will make appetizers that will pair well with the food, Eynon said.

The tasting is $25. Call 970-748-9463 for more information or to reserve a spot at the tasting.
