Wine University winds down in Vail
Vail CO, Colorado
VAIL, Colorado ” In the season finale of Wine University at Larkspur Restaurant, sommelier Kevin Furtado has a special reception planned. The topic “The Bubblies ” not just for celebrating” will offer attendees a variety of sparkling wines. The reception will be held on the Larkspur patio amid the summer flowers in full bloom.
“Everyone loves champagne,” Furtado said, “so it seems perfect to end our summer semester with a celebration.”
Although “sparkling wine” can refer to champagne, the word champagne is an exclusive term referring specifically to wines produced, fermented and bottled in Champagne, France. Other areas of the world including California, Australia and Italy produce sparkling wines and Wine University students will have the opportunity to taste and compare these wines of different regions on Thursday.
Many of the regular Wine U students have requested the series continue into September, but Furtado will be leaving next week for Santa Barbara County, Calif. for the harvest of his own grapes and the process of making this year’s vintage. Furtado began making his own wine two years ago and the release of Syrah 2007, under the label of K.Furtado Wines, will debut in the spring next year.
Furtado promises that the summer wine series will return next year.
“We at Larkspur had been talking about an educational wine program for quite some time, and finally gave it a try this year,” he said. “We were delighted that so many people were interested in a serious rather than social approach. Each class had a different topic and we were fortunate to have many experts as guest speakers.”
The Wine University reception is open to the public and will be held Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. Price per person is $40 and reservations can be made by calling 970-479-8050. For more information, visit http://www.larkspurvail.com.
