Wine’s Holy Grail: Red Burgundy

VAIL ” Six red burgundies from France’s Cote d’Or will be served at Thursday’s Wine University at Larkspur in Vail. Larkspur sommelier Kevin Furtado will host National Sales Manager Eric Eide from Robert Kacher Selections’ leading wine portfolio. Eide will lead the tasting and discussion based on a snapshot of burgundian producers. When asked about the flavor profile of these French pinot noirs, he replied “think along the lines of a symphony rather than a heavy metal band. These wines are not ‘in your face.’ They offer elegance, complexity and a range of aromatics.”

The wine tasting will be blind so students can learn to use the five senses to taste and evaluate wine, “ultimately increasing their enjoyment of wine,” Furtado said.

“No other region in the world has been put under the critical microscope, written about, fussed about, feverishly debated, compared to, let down, uplifted or enamored,” Eide said. “And yet, it is very nearly a universally accepted fact that no other wine region or grape variety, from anywhere, has provided the magical, holy-grailed hauntingness so rarely found, though so utterly sought after by the most critically demanding wine drinkers throughout the world.”



The Wine University class is held Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. at Larkspur Restaurant, 458 Vail Valley Drive. Each participant will receive a ‘tasting notes’ log and a (L) Club Card, good for 50 percent off a select bottle of wine with dinner at Larkspur. Price is $40 per person, seating is limited.
