Winter storm watch for Vail

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for the Vail area beginning Friday through Saturday.

A winter storm watch means significant snow accumulations are possible, including blowing snow.

A jet stream will push into Northwest Colorado on Friday and will bring with it a cold front Friday night. Strong west to northwest winds will interact with a cold, unsettled airmass and deepening moisture, which should produce significant snowfall over the mountains of Northwest Colorado, according to the Weather Service.

Mountain snowfall is expected to increase Friday, becoming heavy at times Friday night and into Saturday.

By Saturday evening, more than a foot of snow is possible, with higher accumulations expected north of Interstate 70, according to the Weather Service.
