Winter storm watch for Vail, surrounding area through Thursday
A winter storm watch has been issued for Vail and surrounding areas, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain showers are expected to start before 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, though the precipitation is expected to turn to snow as temperatures drop throughout the night.
Snow will continue to fall throughout the night and through Thursday in areas of higher elevation, with a total accumulation of 15 inches possible, according to OpenSnow.com.
Wednesday commuters should expect some snow in the morning, though that precipitation will likely turn to rain around midday. Snow showers are expected to return Wednesday night as temperatures drop with an 80% chance of precipitation.
Thursday will be a similar scenario, with a 70% chance of precipitation throughout the day and then 60% at night, with the possibility of snow depending upon changes in temperature and elevation.
Breckenridge Ski Resort announced Wednesday morning it will remain open for two weekends of spring skiing and riding beyond the resort’s previously-scheduled closing day of this Monday, Memorial Day, May 27.
