Winterfest returns to Edwards
EDWARDS – The holidays begin this weekend in Edwards when more than 200 businesses will line the streets of Riverwalk for the second annual Winterfest. Planned by the Edwards Business Association, Winterfest is meant for the whole family and will include a visit from Santa Claus, sleigh rides, carolers and a Festival of Trees to raise funds for valley nonprofit groups, said Colleen McCarthy, owner of the Baggage Cheque.”Last year’s Winterfest was a huge success. We had a great turnout of both local residents and visitors,” said McCarthy, who also is president of the business association. “Edwards has such a variety of unique stores now, there’s no need to go to Denver for your holiday shopping.”For the Festival of Trees, local charities such as the Hospital Volunteers along with the Girl Scouts and the Colorado Ski Museum have decorated Christmas trees. Shoppers will bid to take home their favorite tree in a silent auction with proceeds going directly to the groups who decorated the trees. Trees will be delivered to the winners’ homes on Monday.Winterfest begins at 6 p.m. Friday with a tree lighting ceremony where free hot chocolate will be served. Winterfest continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.For more information, call Colleen McCarthy at 569-3650.
