Wisdom from the Web
On the Vail Daily Web site, you can comment on each story or editorial you read there. Here, we publish excerpts of those comments:Re: Wisdom from the WebI don’t get it. The town of Avon has vancant land property taxed at a higher rate than developed property, yet all these entities complain about over development and how they need to levy impact fees to help with emergency services and sewer/water treatment. There are no kids impacting the schools on vacant land, no sewer, no water use, no animal control, nothing. What gives. Is it just another way to extort money out of the public for a fat govenment? Anyone?Re: Wisdom from the WebRe: “Mr. Foreman with local construction company in the valley for over 15 years now … the Hispanics being illegal or not … I don’t mind what your status is.”I have no problem with you knowingly employing illegals. You are of course:A) Making sure they are covered under your costly Work Comp insurance, right?B) Making sure if they are classified as independent contractors that they carry current medical health coverage, right?C) Because if not, we taxpayers pay for them, not you. And that I have a MAJOR problem with.P.S.: You just admitted you are guilty of U.S.Title 8, Section 1324a, a criminal action which states: “Any person who know ingly hires/harbors/transports any illegal alien is guilty of a felony punishable by 10 years jail, plus $2,000 fine per illegal alien, plus forfeiture of the vehicle or property used to commit the crime.”Our government might have a problem with that portion. …Re: Everyone should breathe easierComrade Commissioner Menconi has once again saved us from ourselves. As a member of the new thought police, he will next tell us what we can and cannot say and where we can say it. This is is nothing but a typical Democrat assault on our freedoms. Menconi was unable to take a stand against terrorists after 9/11, but now can take a bold stand against smoking. What have you been smoking, Arnold?Re: Vail says ‘yes’ to CrossroadsWill these condos be empty most of the time? Or will they be forced to be rented when owners aren’t using them? When full, how many extra customers will they be adding to our destination business – 150, 200, 300 people? How many new employees will this project need? Where will the employees be parking? It seems to me that this project will siphon in more people from Vail Village than it will add to Vail Village at a high employee expense to everyone. I am for it, but I hope the existing businesses are ready for the extra competition for customers that this project brings. Hopefully, the competition for employees will bring better pay and benefits for all of us worker bees in the village!Re: I-70 coalition close to choosing directorThis is a massive waste of taxpayer dollars. How much have Eagle County and the towns spent on this road to nowhere? All that will happen is that we will spend money on another bureaucrat who will produce a study that will gather dust on a shelf. This will all be done at taxpayer expense. These guys have already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on this Disneyland train that will never happen. Why don’t these guys get a clue? Why doesn’t the Vail Daily report on how much of our money is being wasted on this effort?Re: A second-rate stuntAll Menconi understands is government intervention. He thinks that he knows better than we do. Menconi believes that we must all share his same “values.” Guess what, Arn? We don’t! Some of us believe in raising our own children and that government does not know better. Most of us believe in respecting private property rights which is very different from you. You can kill yourself on a bicycle. Let me decide how I want to kill myself.Vail, Colorado
