Wisdom from the Web

Compiled by Daily staff

On the Vail Daily Web site, you can comment on each story or editorial you read there. Here, we publish excerpts of those comments:Re: Home Rule CommissionAlthough the new Eagle County home rule proposal provides for five county commissioners, it does little to ensure local representation. Like the current three-member commission, the proposed five-member commission would be elected at-large. ALL voters across the entire county would still get to vote on all commissioner seats. The home rule proposal does nothing to prevent a countywide majority from hijacking any chance at local representation.Editor’s note: Under the proposal, primary elections for commissioner would be by the district.Re: Support for day-care tax studiedWill someone explain to me why my tax dollars are being used to further Commissioner Arn Menconi’s personal agenda? And then explain to me why I would want the government involved in early child-care issues when I can’t even count on the government to provide quality education to school-age children? Please leave it in the private sector. If you want to help families, lower taxes so we can spend more of our money helping our own children.I believe that I know what is best for my children, not the county commissioners.Re: Support for day-care tax studiedIt may be legal, but it is wrong to be spending our taxpayer dollars on phone polls to campaign for a tax increase. Stop this insanity! You Democrats are all the same. Your definition of legal all depends on “What the definition of is, is.” (Bill Clinton. What a role model.)I guess that your attorneys have no ethics either. They are probably just concerned about keeping their jobs.Re: I don’t feel saferPersonally, as a young professional, I don’t feel safer. About the same as before. But now I worry about the future of this country and how my generation is going to have to pay for all this. I see my rights slowly slipping away, greedy corporations gaining more power and governmental influence, and a growing gap between the rich and the poor. But I guess if you already got yours, who cares?Re: No subjectWhy not offer a train depot service in Eagle County for our daily commuters heading up and downvalley and into the downtown Denver area? What a fun day trip that would be for our families.Vail, Colorado
