On the Vail Daily Web site, you can comment on each story or editorial you read there. Here, we publish excerpts of those comments:Re: Incumbent ousted from assessor’s raceTo respond to Smith’s comment – “Smith said he doesn’t know if it will be awkward to work under Mack for the next few months” – Joyce Mack is a class act. She will not lower herself to the other side’s standards, ever. Mr. Smith, you have nothing to worry about at all. It won’t be awkward. Her friends are telling her to celebrate!Re: Wisdom from the WebAustin Richardson was right that we don’t need to approve this babysitting tax. Don Rogers becomes more liberal every day. Don should run for county commissioner. That way he could really have a hand in spending other people’s money freely.Re: Research is a valuable toolNone of those other gods may have claimed to “humble themselves to die for our sins,” but behind each of those other legendary god was some similarly fanciful claim – made, if not by the god himself, by some imaginative or manipulative mortal. Nothing in the Gospels indicates that Jesus claimed to be God, or to redeem us through death and resurrection. What Jesus claimed, or was claimed to have claimed, is less important that the fact that so many of the legends surrounding him were so derivative of “pagan” legends that had been in circulation for so long. Why would God have elected to incarnate himself in a way, and live a life, that was already so ridden with popular cliches?Re: Research is a valuable toolYou’re forgetting several things. Perseus and Hercules were both sons of gods that walked the Earth as mortals, fulfilling the role of savior to the common man. Same stories, fables and myths. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent. Just the facts, ma’am. Just the facts.Re: Letters to the EditorThanks to the nameless neo-con for this nugget of enlightenment. Let’s just sum it up here: Criticizing anything Israel does, has done in the past, or is doing currently equal anti-Semitism. OK, I get it now. Wow, life is so simple when you’re a right-winger!Outraged over innocent women, children, sick and old people being bombed my American-taxpayer funded Israeli warplanes? You must be an anti-Semite! Concerned that the ne-con nightmare we’ve been living in has wasted billions of your taxpayer dollars and created more terrorists in the process? You must be an anti-Semite! Have a problem with George W Bush? You must be an “ultra-liberal fool” and an anti-Semite! Do you support Israel’s right to exist but disagree with the ultra right-wingers and the neo-cons? Sorry, you’re an anti-Semite! Concerned over the fact that we should have been helping Lebanon defend its fragile democracy instead of giving nearly all of our foreign aid to Israel for more weapons? Obviously you’re an anti-Semite! Don’t buy the lie that all Arabs wish for nothing less than the destruction of Israel and America? You’re an anti-Semite!Vail, Colorado
