Wolcott Yacht Club to reopen in May
How they voted: Runyon and Fisher cast yes votes on both.
Who’s serving? The commissioners approved a special event permit to serve beer at a May 2 Cinco de Mayo event at the Eagle River Center at the Eagle County Fairgrounds. The event, sponsored by the One Eagle business group and NRC broadcasting, is expected to draw 2,000 people or more.
The commissioners also approved the transfer of a liquor license to Jan Jouflas, who is set to re-open the Wolcott Yacht Club on Memorial Day weekend.
After the partners who ran the Yacht Club last summer decided they wouldn’t return for another season, Jouflas said she was flooded with calls to keep the place alive.
“I’m going to do it until we get it sold,” Jouflas said.
What they talked about: County sales tax revenues in 2010.
Who they talked to: County Finance Director John Lewis.
What they learned: Sales tax collections for January and February are running ever-so-slightly ahead of projections. But there was still less money coming in than in the first two months of 2009. Overall, sales tax collections are more than 20 percent lower than the first two months of 2008.
What they said: “We’re not out of the woods yet. Things haven’t gotten worse, but I wouldn’t call these numbers optimistic.” – Peter Runyon.
Present: Sara Fisher, Peter Runyon.
