Woman arrested for stealing car with owner on hood in Denver

DENVER – A woman accused of stealing a car as its owner clung to the hood is behind bars in Wyoming.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says 26-year-old Kim Lucero of Denver was arrested Wednesday after a trooper found her stopped along Interstate 25 near Douglas, Wyo. The trooper stopped to offer assistance but arrested her after learning the 1995 Nissan was stolen.

Her young daughter, believed to 3 years old, was put in the care of social workers.

Lucero is accused of stealing the car from outside a sandwich shop in Denver. The owner, 31-year-old Ryan Calles, jumped on the moving car and was thrown to the ground several blocks later.

The car never stopped and reached speeds up to 50 mph before turning. Calles fell and hit his head, suffering critical injuries.
