Woman charged in fatal roundabout crash
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY ” An Eagle woman whose passenger was killed as she allegedly led police on a high-speed chase in Eagle-Vail in February will face two counts of vehicular homicide in court, authorities said.
Candace E. Calvin is scheduled appear in an Eagle County district courtroom Tuesday at 10 a.m. when a Judge will advise her of the nine counts with which prosecutors have charged her, said Mark Hurlbert, Eagle County District Attorney.
The fatal crash marks the second time Calvin was driving while her license was revoked, Hurlbert said.
According to court records, Calvin had first been caught driving with a suspended license Sept. 6.
Hurlbert did not know Monday why Calvin had lost her license, he said.

Calvin, 22, of Eagle crashed her Honda Accord at a roundabout at U.S. Highway 6 and William J. Post Boulevard at 12:42 a.m. Feb. 22. Her passenger Matthew E. Lopez, 23, a Wheatridge man who had been living in Eagle County, died in the crash.
Troopers tried to stop the vehicle when they saw it speeding and weaving while headed west on Interstate 70 near Dowd Junction, the Colorado State Patrol said.
After exiting the highway, the vehicle reached speeds of more than 90 mph on Highway 6 before hitting a raised median barrier, striking a light pole, then rolling at least 1 1/2 times through the center island of the roundabout, the State Patrol said.
Lopez was wearing a seat belt and Calvin was not, the State Patrol said.
At Tuesday’s court appearance, a judge will schedule a preliminary hearing to decide whether the court has probable cause to continue with the district attorney’s case, Hurlbert said.
