Woman drives into river near Minturn

Steve Lynn
Vail, CO Colorado

MINTURN ” A woman who looked down to reach for her cell phone crashed into the Eagle River Tuesday morning, Colorado State Trooper Don Kettle said.

Chantelle Medina was headed west on U.S. Highway 24 when she veered off the road and fell about eight feet below into the Eagle River, Kettle said.

“It’s a pretty steep drop there to the river,” Kettle said.

Medina’s SUV landed on top of a boulder, from which she was able to walk on a log to the riverbank, a half-mile east of Minturn.

Medina was wearing her seat belt and was not injured, Kettle said. Her GMC Yukon was pulled out of the river, Kettle said.
