Woman with child steals car, Denver police say

Denver police are looking for a woman with a child who stole a car and seriously injured the car’s owner while making a hard turn and throwing him from the hood.

The incident started at about 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of Alameda Avenue and Broadway, police spokesman Sonny Jackson said.

The victim and some friends went into a sandwich shop and from inside saw a woman get into his car with a young girl, Jackson said.

The woman was about to drive off when the owner raced from the store to the car and pounded on the windows, yelling for her to stop.

The driver kept going and the man jumped on the hood of the car, which headed south on Broadway.

“She was driving 40 to 50 miles per hour,” Jackson said.
