Women’s Foundation recognizes Davis
VAIL, Colorado – Susie Davis, vice president of education for the Vail Valley Foundation, was presented with the 2012 WOW! (Women & Girls Outstanding Work) Award on Friday at the Women’s Foundation of Colorado annual luncheon in Vail.Created in 2010 by the Vail Valley Committee of the Women’s Foundation, the WOW! Award honors those who work on behalf of women and girls in the Vail Valley community. Past recipients have included Judy Caligiuri (2010) and Natalia Hanks and Michele Hovey (2011).”It is totally fitting that Susie be presented with the WOW! Award,” said Vail Valley Foundation President Ceil Folz. “While there are clearly measurable outcomes from her work in the community, the true impact Susie has made on the Vail Valley is immeasurable.”Davis has developed and inspired several gender-based programs to improve the lives of women and girls, creating Voices Carry, a mentoring program that helps high school girls build character development and leadership skills, while also sharing their individual gifts. She also developed Nuestras Voces (Our Voices), which brought together 25 Spanish-speaking mothers over the course of 15 weeks to address the isolation that often occurs for new mothers. Most recently, Davis has been instrumental in developing and implementing the VVF’s Youth Foundation Girl PowHER program, helping local girls increase their self-esteem, improve their grades, achieve greater engagement in and out of school and enhance their physical fitness.
