Woodland beats Menconi in Eagle landslide

EAGLE, Colorado ” Incumbent Town Board member Ed Woodland soundly defeated Eagle County Commissioner Arn Menconi in Tuesday’s Eagle Mayor election.

Woodland tallied 734 votes to Menconi’s 126.

In the race for three open town board seats, Yuri Kostick collected the most votes with 489. He was followed by Roxie Deane with 472 and incumbent Kraige Kinney with 376.

Tuesday’s election drew the largest voter turnout ever seen in Eagle. Nine hundred and five residents cast ballots, and results weren’t available until after 1 a.m. Wednesday. The previous record turnout was 533 votes cast in a 1982 recall election.

“My campaign was very personal, and it was very humbling to go into people’s homes and knowing and their doors and exchange e-mails with them,” Woodland said early Wednesday.

“The large turnout was largely due to Arn’s decision to run and I want to thank him for running,” Woodland said. “I wish Arn the best as he continues his term as county commissioner.”

Deane, who previously served one term as a town board member and two terms as mayor, said she was happy with the results. “I am looking forward to tackling some of the big issues that Eagle is facing.”
