Wooing the world one stage at a time
Her music is soulful; her sounds embody a unique combination of funk, jazz blues, pop and rock. Wendy Woo is the grand finale act for the free ShowDown Town at Eagle’s Town Park.
A Boulder native, Woo draws from her life experiences as her source for inspiration. She says that writing music helps her to make it through tough times as well as cherish good times.
Having begun with a grass-roots start in a town that cradles new talent, while simultaneously making or breaking future musicians, Woo has made a breakthrough onto many Boulder stages as well as numerous venues across the nation. She’s been pegged as an up-and-coming star.
After quitting her day job at a popular Boulder bar, Woo has now devoted most of her time to songwriting and producing, which has allowed her to focus on making her lyrics sharp. If the lyrics are too personal, they sound whiny and depressing, she said. Conversely, if they are too vague, they will never connect with the listener.
Woo has become a staple on the Boulder music scene, as well as Denver.
Following this summer’s bill of bluegrass, jazz, and a cappella, Woo will top the summer Showdown Town series with her fun, blues-laced rock.
“Her voice, which ranges from a sultry purr to a sexy growl, is outstanding, and her guitar work is even more impressive,” wrote said Joshua Green in “Westword.” “She delivers her folk material with subtlety and tasteful restraint, but she’s equally adept at rocking out.”
The last concert in the ShowDown Town Concert Series in Eagle is today at 6:30 p.m. Sand art will be available for children and concessions will be sold. Admission is free.
