World AIDS Day event to be held in Edwards

AVON, Colorado – “Keep the Light on HIV and Human Rights” is the theme for World AIDS Day 2010, observed on Dec. 1 each year. Communities around the world are coming together to shine the light on HIV/AIDS efforts.

Join Red Ribbon Project and guest speaker Jeff Fard to shine a light on HIV/AIDS at the Think Globally, Educate Locally awareness and fundraiser event. The event will be held at Eat! Drink! in Edwards from 5:30-8 p.m.

A donation of $20 is suggested and appetizers and cocktails will be provided. There will be a chance drawing for a United Air round-trip ticket as well as holiday items for sale.

A native of northeast Denver, Ford, better known as Brother Jeff, is a writer, poet, cultural and community organizer and entrepreneur. He frequents the national lecture circuit speaking to youth, students, social organizations, and professionals about issues including cultural identity and history, diversity, self-empowerment, community building, economic development, and the uniting power of art.

Ten years ago, Brother Jeff began organizing nationally to help reduce the disproportionate HIV and AIDS rate in the African-American community. He developed Brother Jeff’s Community Health Initiative and successfully convened his first annual “Pro-Active 4 A Change: HIV/AIDS African-American Community Conference.”
