Mr. Rogers: I just finished reading your defense of publishing the photo of the victim in the chairlift accident. While I do believe you were not purposely intending to mock this man further, I still feel you made the wrong choice.
As you already said, the article is quite compelling even without the photos. At the very least, you might have blurred out what I’m sure he would have preferred to keep covered if he could have. You said the photos were taken from a distance, but some of them zoomed in quite close and left little to the imagination.
One final thought to consider, if you haven’t yet: Would you have made the same choice if the victim in question had been a woman? Just something to think about.
