VAIL, Colorado – Wyclef Jean is a man of many titles: Haitian-American, multi-platinum musician, rapper and record producer. Saturday night he’ll perform a free show in Vail’s Ford Park.”Vail is elated to have Wyclef Jean headline this year’s Spring Back to Vail concert line-up,” said Adam Sutner, marketing director for Vail Mountain.Wycelf broke through the musical scene in the mid-’90s as a founding member of The Refugee Camp (The Fugees), a three-member group that included Lauryn Hill and Prakazrel “Pras” Michel. The Fugees’ sophomore album, 1996’s “The Score,” became reached the No. 1 slot on Billboard’s Top 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums charts. The album earned two Grammys and went on to become the world’s No. 1 top-selling hip-hop album of all-time, selling more than 19 million copies globally and still counting. In 1997, Wycelf broke off on his own to embark on a solo writing and production career. His talents as a producer and collaborator led to a myriad of successful projects including recording “New Day” with Bono, writing and producing Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love,” Carlo Santana’s “Supernatural,” which won the Grammy Album of the Year, and Shakira’s international smash hit duet “Hips Don’t Lie,” which earned him the No. 1 Top 40 airplay record of all time. “Blending hip-hop, reggae, R&B and folk, Wycelf’s show in Vail will give a sneak peek into his upcoming self-titled album to be released June 2010,” said Wycelf’s publicist Briele Douglass. “He is ecstatic to perform at an outdoor venue with the scenic mountain backdrop and to have been selected as the headliner artist to perform at Vail Mountain’s closing weekend festival.”A detailed schedule of Spring Back to Vail events can be found at http://www.springbacktovail.com.
