Wyoming governor blasts proposed Colorado water pipeline

BEN NEARY

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Gov. Dave Freudenthal is sharply criticizing an entrepreneur’s plan to build a pipeline to carry water from the Green River in Wyoming to the Front Range in Colorado.

Freudenthal submitted comments Monday to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Colorado.

The federal agency is studying a proposal from Fort Collins, Colo., businessman Aaron Million. He proposes to pipe water from the area around Flaming Gorge Reservoir to as far south as Pueblo, Colo.

Freudenthal says the federal agency can’t assess the project when Million won’t say yet exactly where and how the water would be used.

Million says he’s committed to meeting high environmental standards. But he won’t identify the customers he says he has lined up to buy the water.
