Xcel Energy expects dip in May natural gas prices
DENVER, Colorado ” Xcel Energy says it expects the average natural gas bill for residential customers in May to be about 39 percent lower compared with a year earlier.
Small-business customers’ bills would be about 45 percent lower on average.
The utility said Friday that it proposed a price of about 29 cents a therm for May, nearly three times lower than the price in May 2008.
The change proposed to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission reflects an expected drop in natural gas prices, partly due to higher-than-normal storage inventories of natural gas and a bleak outlook for consumption in the near future.
Xcel Energy does not profit from the sale of the natural gas commodity to customers.
