Yoga philosophy immersion workshop in Edwards
VAIL CO, Colorado
Life-long yoga and meditation practitioner Katy Poole will lead a yoga workshop at Dogma Athletica in Edwards Saturday and Sunday. The workshop’s title is “enlivening and expanding your yoga practice and teaching with Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.”
The classes will take place Saturday and Sunday from 1:30 to 5 p.m.
In Saturday’s workshop, attendees will learn about the major historical themes of yoga, how yoga’s philosophy can shift one’s mindset from limitation to possibility, and expand yoga practice and teaching beyond the mat and into all areas of life.
On Sunday, attendees will learn about yoga sutras. For many students and teachers of yoga, Ptanjali’s Yoga Sutras give the practice its meaning and endurance over 5,000 continuous years.
“The sutras provide a vision of where yoga can take you on its incredible journey of self-development,” said Amy Baker of Dogma Athletica. “They form the heart of yoga philosophy and are essential for everyone wanting to expand their knowledge, practice and teaching.”
In this introductory seminar, Poole will provide attendees with a strong foundation in reading the yoga sutras and relating to them in meaningful and practical ways. Attendees will learn about what is meant by the “eight-limbs” of yoga and how to incorporate them in practice and teaching. Finally, attendees will gain a solid understanding of the relationship between yoga asana and meditation as articulated in the sutras.
Poole earned a doctorate in Religious Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara.-Her studies focused on the spiritually uplifting and inspiring religious traditions of India, yoga and Sanskrit. Having spent 16 years apprenticed with Vedic and Yoga masters in India to gain expert skills in yoga, mediation, Sanskrit and Jyotisha (Vedic Astrology), she founded Shruti Institute for Vedic Arts and authored “Sanskrit for Yogis” to make the ancient traditions of India accessible to modern yoga teachers and students.
