Yule Log Hunt fundraiser set for Sunday in Eagle-Vail

Daily staff report

EAGLE-VAIL — Celebrate the winter solstice and ring in the official start of the holiday season with a new tradition borrowed from the Victorian era: the Yule Log Hunt. This second annual event is created and presented by Eagle County Early Childhood Programs, and proceeds benefit Early Childhood education in the valley. The hunt takes place on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion and includes dinner, a silent auction, vendor booths, a visit from Santa Claus and more.

The Yule Log Hunt is a spirited search for a festively decorated Yule Log using clues provided by huntsmen positioned throughout the hunting grounds. Once found, the log is dragged back to the fire pit where it is sawed in half; one half is burned and the other is saved for the next year’s hunt. The finder of the Yule Log is promised luck for the upcoming year, as well as prizes donated from local businesses.

The hunt package includes a soup dinner donated by participating restaurants, as well as cookie decorating for the kids, a bake sale, silent auction, s’mores toasting, vendor booths, a visit from Santa and more.

Cost for The Yule Log Hunt is $20 per individual and $50 for a family of four (additional members $5 each). Proceeds benefit local participating Early Childhood Programs, which support area youngsters and their families, including Discovery School; Nurturing with Nature; Pooh Corner Preschool; Prater Lane Play School; The Bear’s Den Home Child Care; The Treehaus Early Learning Program; Mountain Journey School; and Gypsum Christian Academy.
