Actively Green 2015 ambassador profile: Carrie Henderson

Editor’s note: This is a weekly spotlight that celebrates a local person who works for an Actively Green 2015 participating sustainable business.

Name: Carrie Henderson.

Job: General manager of Montaneros in Vail.

Why does Actively Green 2015 matter? It’s easy to see that I’m part of something much bigger. Everybody does their small part in each of their locations, and that’s what adds up.

How does corporate support strengthen the cause at Montaneros? Wyndham Worldwide is committed to sustainability. We have a corporate team green leader in each region and councils within all the business units that utilize resources from the corporate level.

What’s a green initiative that has succeeded at Montaneros? One of the biggest projects we’ve done is a salt sanitation pool system.

My favorite green practice at home is … Encouraging my son to take charge of recycling and see him own it. What’s so neat is to look at him as a 3-year-old and know that “recycling” is part of his vocabulary, it’ll always be there and he won’t have to learn that later.

Can you share a tip for businesses looking to get involved with Actively Green? Working with a team is the best thing. You need to have involvement at all levels in your organization to really succeed at something like this. Ultimately, there are a lot of payoffs.

The Actively Green 2015 Sustainable Business Certification program is a community-driven partnership supported by the town of Vail, Vail Valley Foundation, Sustainable Travel International and Walking Mountains Science Center. To get involved go to
