Vail Daily column: Share our excitement with the world

As the holiday season washes over the Vail Valley, I wanted to wish you all a magical holidays and a happy and prosperous New Year on behalf of the entire 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships Organizing Committee.

This is truly a time for not only giving, but also for sharing. As the clock counts down to the dawn of 2015, one of our New Year’s resolutions should be to determine how best to share our World Championships, not only with each other, but with the world.

We have an incredible opportunity to showcase our wonderful community and lifestyle in a little over a month, not just to the people that are here for the Championships, but with all of those fans that will be tuned in around the globe each night.

For those that have made the journey to be here in person to celebrate the Championships with us, we need to make sure that they feel the warmth, personality and friendliness that has come represent the world view of the Vail Valley since Vail opened 52 years ago. We need to share how very special our home is.

For those that will be watching on television, we need to ensure that they see a resort community that they are compelled to experience for themselves someday. We literally have the opportunity to open our front door to the world.

Social Media is an asset

Of course, sharing 2015 can also be achieved through social media. It’s amazing to think of how many ways we have to share our Championships and how many people around the world can be touched by someone sharing this event. When you think of something special about our Championships, or see something “share worthy,” post it, tweet it or Instagram it to share with your friends and followers.

These World Championships and the Vail Valley are amazing gifts that we have the unique chance to share with the world. This is an incredible opportunity that we need to ensure that we capitalize on and it is an undertaking that starts now and goes well beyond just the two weeks of the event.

While we all have a tendency to make New Year’s resolutions that often get forgotten the following week, let’s agree to make one resolution for 2015 that we all find a way to maintain for the coming year: Let’s share the Championships with anyone and everyone we meet, before, during and after the FIS flag is lowered at the closing ceremony on Feb. 15.

Wonderful Gift

The 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships is a truly wonderful gift that we were presented with four years ago. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are pleased and honored to share it with our community, our state, our nation and the world.

It is our gift. Please feel free to share it with everyone. And, since I have a bet to win, please feel free to follow me at @ceilfolz.

Ceil Folz is president of the Vail Valley Foundation and president of the 2015 World Championships Organizing Committee. The 2015 World Championships are scheduled from Feb. 2-15, 2015.
