Vail Daily Hits and Misses

MISS: From a reader who emailed: “So, Marriott and Vail Resorts can afford to fly kids from China to ski, but their employees can’t afford day-care? Sounds like a MISS.”
HIT: To the next great sports event, the Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships pitting the top snowboarders in the world against each other in easily viewed, highly entertaining form. And, oh yeah, all the apres fun that comes with it.
MISS: To the sheer difficulty for young families to find affordable child care in this valley. It’s not easy anywhere, but especially tough here, where dual incomes are necessities.
HIT: To municipal efforts in Avon, Vail and Eagle to improve their trail systems. Seems every survey these days puts hiking at the top of the list for what everyone likes to do most. Well, besides skiing.
HIT: To Colorado Mountain College committing to making the sprawling college among the most affordable any way.
HIT: To efforts to make chain laws clearer and winter driving safer in our mountains.
MISS: To the nuts who drive on slick ice as if it were summer, heedless of the risk they are taking or hazard they become to other drivers and passengers.
HIT: To Mikaela Shiffrin taking a little time from her busy, busy schedule to write a letter of thanks to everyone connected to the World Ski Championships. Very thoughtful.
