Vail Daily Hits and Misses
Got a quick Hit or Miss about issues, decisions or goings-on in the valley? Send yours to email@example.com to be included.
HIT: To the Eagle Valley Library District’s Local Author Expo and Book Fair, highlighting our literary neighbors and their works for Christmas presents or our own edification. The event is today at the Eagle Public Library from 5 to 8 p.m.
HIT: To the food drive coordinated by Vail Police Officer Craig Westerling. The drive gathered up 24 tons. Law enforcement, schools and lots and lots of citizens participated. Vail Resorts donations haven’t been counted yet and will add plenty to the pile.
HIT: To snowshoeing and Walking Mountains Science Center guiding excursions.
HIT: To a Thanksgiving in the mountains with lots of snow to go with that family time.
HIT: To Wall Street refugee, Vail ski instructor and Buena Vista raft guide Matthew Burdine, who is busy paddling the length of the Mississippi River, beginning with dragging his canoe the first half mile through a marsh.
MISS: To comparing speed skier Lindsey Vonn to slalom skier Mikaela Shiffrin, both dominant in their top disciplines and both hometown racers.
HIT: Speaking of dominant, to Shiffrin’s dominance in Aspen, winning two races and leading until crashing three gates short of a third victory. Wow.
HIT: To Gypsum Golf Course providing for skiing and golfing in our valley past Thanksgiving.
HIT: To Vail offering kids a chance to help design the town’s new playground at Booth Creek Park.
MISS: To the small sewage leak through a storm drain from a pipe next to the Arrabelle in a commercial space used by Vail Resorts ski school. No big deal, and it eventually was found. Ahem, the town of Vail, Eagle River Water & Sanitation District and Vail Resorts could have been more prompt in reporting there was a problem. Just saying.
HIT: To Small Business Saturday. Naming days to shop is a little cloying. But between Black This and Cyber That, why not highlight the backbone of American society?
HIT: To Colorado Gives on Tuesday. It’s a way to add to your donation to your favorite nonprofits.
MISS: To whining, whiners and, um, whining! Yes, life is unfair. Yes, we’re spoiled, which probably is why we’re whining at what hardier folk take in stride.
HIT: To Energy Smart Colorado, good for the pocketbook and the environment, too.
HIT: To winter bird feeders. Does that make up for the cats?
HIT: To United Airlines adding a weekend flight from Chicago to Eagle County Regional Airport.
MISS: To SourceGas sticking to the now more densely populated natural gas pipeline route through Eagle Ranch, along the same line built when nuthin’ was there. You all can do better than that.
HIT: To Habitat for Humanity, which has gained momentum over the years, picking up more land at Gypsum’s Stratton Flats to keep it all going.
HIT: To the new Boone’s Wine and Spirits, near City Market in Eagle, going big and bold.
