Letter: A heartfelt thank you to the Holy Cross Energy community
After 13 incredible years serving on the board of directors for Holy Cross Energy, it is time to pass the torch. It has truly been the honor of my career to work alongside such dedicated and visionary board members, an extraordinary staff, and the inspiring communities we serve.
Over the past 15 years, Holy Cross Energy has become a national leader in the clean energy future, now providing over 80% of our electricity from renewable sources, well on our way to 100%. Together, we’ve saved our members close to $40 million compared to traditional fossil fuel-based systems — all while maintaining the highest standards of safety, financial strength, and innovation, committed to doing our part to mitigate climate change — the challenge of our lifetime.
As a member-owned cooperative, Holy Cross Energy stands out not only for delivering safe, reliable, and affordable power but also for its strong commitment to programs that empower our members. From battery storage and EV charging incentives to energy efficiency rebates, wildfire mitigation, and supporting community energy systems, Holy Cross continues to lead the way in building a resilient, sustainable energy future.
I’m especially proud of the organization’s emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and of the unmatched talent and dedication of the Holy Cross staff — truly the best in the business.
As I pass the torch, I’m thrilled to endorse Kim Schlaepfer for the Northern District board seat. I’m confident she will bring insight, dedication, and a strong sense of purpose to this role. I have worked with Kim for many years and have seen her excel as not only a climate leader but also as an expert in sustainable buildings, community engagement, governance, and policy. I also wholeheartedly support my fellow board member, Bob Gardner, in continuing to help lead Holy Cross. Bob is also a pragmatic leader, a champion of sustainability, and a dedicated board member committed to the best interests of the owner-members of Holy Cross.
