Letter: Let’s keep political agendas out of the public library

Kudos to David O. Williams for reporting on James van Beek’s decision to not read the children’s book written by conspiracist and right-wing activist Jack Posobiec. I followed the link provided through the Vail Daily website to access the book, as well as “Brave Books Story Hour” — the website/group behind these books.

Sponsored by the Eagle County Republicans, these story hours are pushing a highly conservative, Christian agenda and philosophy which has no place in a public library setting aimed toward children. Brave Books partners with “people of moral integrity to teach complex Christian and Conservative values.” Books include Elizabeth Johnston’s “Little Lives Matter,” on the “sanctity of life” (anti-choice agenda), “More than Spots and Stripes,” by conservative “comics” the Hodge Twins, on the dangers of critical race theory and “Elephants are Not Birds,” by Ashley St. Clair, who stated that her book is an  “unapologetic rebuke of transgender acceptance,”  and “Paws off my Cannon,” written by Dana Loesch, former spokeswoman for the NRA and a former writer and editor at Breitbart.

I would suggest that our public libraries and our local law enforcement disengage from any organization that is attempting to push their agendas on the children of our community.
