Letter: Let’s pay it forward by passing CORE Act

Our forefathers gifted us with an immeasurable treasure with the protection of our public lands and the creation of our national parks.  How will we pay this forward so that our children’s children will also benefit from the endless opportunities that nature provides hosted within our conserved public lands?

Sadly, for a variety of reasons, our wildlife populations are on the decline.  These critical lands are their refuge providing protective winter habitat and fuel for the spring and summer. Protections for our public lands are ultimately protections for our wildlife.

It’s exciting to witness a broad coalition of support for the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy Act (CORE). This recognizes that wilderness needs to be forever because once it’s gone … it doesn’t return. This legislation proposes to preserve and protect 400,000 acres of land that have been identified to serve wildlife habitat, which will in turn bring Coloradans and out-of-staters alike out to view, hike, fish and hunt.

Silence condones and I always remember what we have inherited and believe we need to support efforts to protect what we have had as well as provide for future generations. I hope Congressman Scott Tipton and Senator Cory Gardner will sign on to the CORE act. This will demonstrate a united appreciation for our wildlife and protect our lands by continuing to pay it forward.
