Letter: Lucky to have Holy Cross working on lowering emissions
The multinational group of scientists at the World Weather Attribution Group states that the burning of fossil fuels has made storms as severe as Hurricane Helene about 2.5 times more likely than they were in the pre-industrial age.
The Living Planet Index reports: “Wildlife populations have plummeted by an average of 73% over the past 50 years, with some regions losing as much as 95%. The biggest driver of these declines is habitat converted for agriculture, particularly meat and dairy production, highlighting the urgent need to shift toward plant-rich diets.
When Gov. Polis asked that Coloradans cut out one day of beef eating, the cattle industry was furious. Come on – one day? Let’s get real.
We are lucky to have an electric co-op, Holy Cross, that is working to have a 100% carbon-free power supply by 2030 and completely offset its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2035. Eagle County and the town of Eagle are trying to make our area more and more climate-conscious.
