Letter: Michelle Stecher for school board

It’s election season, and ballots have arrived. I hope everyone takes the time necessary to complete and return their ballots by Nov. 5. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes of your time to make a difference in your community. Although there are many important issues on the ballot, I would like to focus your attention on the school board candidates.

One of the most impactful volunteer roles a community member can fill is that of school board member. Just over a year ago Michelle Stecher stepped up to fill the vacancy created when a board member resigned. Michelle’s work in the community with Mountain Youth (previously the Eagle River Youth Coalition) gave her a unique perspective and background of experiences and made her an excellent choice for appointment to the school board.

Michelle has been an exceptional board member this past year and has spent the time necessary to get up to speed on all the issues. Any school board member or past member can tell you about the steep learning curve associated with becoming a thoughtful and effective board member.

We are fortunate to have such a competent person willing to do all the homework necessary to be a well-informed board member able to make fair balanced decisions on behalf of all the children of Eagle County. We should capitalize on her experience and continue the forward momentum of the board by allowing her to continue in her role as a school board member.

I encourage you to vote for Michelle to continue the good work of the school board in supporting our students.
