Letter: Shaping brighter futures in Eagle County

I have been with Eagle County School District for 14 years and have witnessed firsthand the positive impact of the Education Foundation of Eagle County’s classroom grants on our students. I am writing to express my gratitude to the Education Foundation of Eagle County and Vail Health for their ongoing support of local students and teachers.

Through EFEC’s classroom grants and Vail Health’s partnership, Eagle County School District students are given opportunities that would not otherwise be possible in a state that continues to rank near the bottom in education funding. Their support ensures that essential programs in STEM, art, music, and equity not only survive but thrive.

The nationally recognized Science Olympiad competition engages middle and high school students in hands-on, competitive STEM learning experiences, and many of our nation’s leading scientists were once competitors themselves. With the support of EFEC and Vail Health, students are developing the expertise, confidence, skills, and curiosity needed to pursue careers in science and technology.

This past year, Eagle County School District achieved 100% re-enrollment in Science Olympiad at both Eagle Valley Middle School and Berry Creek Middle School, with the majority of students continuing to be members of teams at Battle Mountain High School, Eagle Valley High School, Homestake Peak School, and Gypsum Creek Middle School. Our students also earned dozens of top-10 finishes at the regional level, including three at the state level, and many have been accepted into competitive university science programs. These achievements are made possible through the support of EFEC’s classroom grants.

But the impact extends far beyond science. By funding innovative classroom projects across subjects, EFEC and Vail Health support our teachers to spark creativity, equity, and achievement in every corner of our schools.

On behalf of my students and colleagues, I would like to thank EFEC and Vail Health for their belief in our children and their investment in their education. Their commitment is shaping brighter futures in Eagle County.
