Vail Daily column: A job well done
I am writing to thank the team of men who worked tirelessly through the night last Friday to fix the water problem on West Gore Creek Drive in Matterhorn. I reported a loss of water pressure at 1:30 p.m. to the foreman from Eagle River and Sanitation. His name was Danny. Danny was already looking into a possible leak situation. When I told him of our loss of water pressure, he figured out where the leak likely was, smiled and said, “It’s gonna be a long night”.
Danny and his team immediately got to work. Our water was turned off so they could work. When I got home from work at 1 a.m., Danny and his team were working in a 12-foot-deep hole that was the width of the street. I asked Danny how things were going and he replied that things were going well, but they were going to continue to work until our water was turned back on, still smiling despite the fact that his day had been extended by several hours. When I thanked him for delaying his weekend, he said that he hoped he would be able sleep in a little tomorrow. He was hoping to sleep in until 6 am since he had to be back in the office at 7 am.
Our water was back on by 1:30 a.m. and the hole was filled, job complete by 3:30 a.m. All of the workers we talked to were cordial and not the least bit disgruntled by having to work until the early morning to fix the problem. Everyone just focused and worked hard to get the job done. I want to thank them, not only for their hard work but for how quickly they got to work and got the work done. We were preparing for the worst, but it ended up being just a minor inconvenience.
Kudos to the Eagle River and Sanitation Department. Job well done.
