Vail Daily letter: Asking for your vote

To Eagle County voters,

My name is Carrie Larson and it has been my honor to serve on the Eagle County School Board for the last two years. I am asking for your vote to continue focusing on improving our schools, supporting our teachers, setting high standards, enhancing school safety, increasing our technology opportunities, and, most importantly, preparing all students with global-ready skills.

I have lived in the Vail Valley for almost 25 years and am an Xterra and six-time Ironman finisher, and hold a B.A. in business from Golden Gate University. My husband and I have three sons attending Eagle County Schools. Our oldest is a sophomore at Battle Mountain High School interested in culinary arts. He is excited to have the opportunity to be involved in ProStart, a nationally recognized culinary program at BMHS. Our two youngest boys attend Eagle County Charter Academy. I became involved in Eagle County public education in 2005 when my youngest was in kindergarten. I love volunteering in the classroom, attending educational events, serving on the Special Education Advisory Committee, and have served for five years on the District Accountability Committee. I currently serve our community as HOA treasurer for Rivers Edge and am a member of the Town of Gypsum Recreation Board. Most important to me has been my service on the Eagle County School Board for the past two years.

One of the reasons I began serving on the school board was my belief in strengthening and empowering the different types of schools we have for our learners. Eagle County Schools have open enrollment for all students, so families can choose the education that best fits their needs. Eagle County Schools currently offer Dual Language, Expeditionary Learning, an International Baccalaureate World School, the Ski & Snowboard Academy, Charter Academy and Community Schools. I also support diversity in our schools. I have been part of the Board of Education working on balancing our district’s diversity. The shift is not going to happen overnight, but with the community’s support, we can make a difference. I support Dr. Jason Glass’s leadership and his vision for the district.

The biggest reason I am running for another term is to continue serving on the board for all kids! It’s important to me that we are constantly challenging ourselves to make sure we are meeting and exceeding the needs of the students we are responsible for educating. Your vote counts! Each registered voter has the opportunity to vote for one person in each district. Thank you!
