Vail Daily letter: Consider transfer tax relief
With all the talk about the employee-housing problems, I felt it appropriate to give my input. It seems the town is basically on the right track with the Chamonix project and the other projects they have done in the recent past; however, there is more that must be done to keep our resort community humming along.
One area of our housing inventory that seems to regularly disappear is the units that are purchased by out-of-towners for their personal use. I feel that an incentive to keep these units in the rental or resident pool could help our local problem. One incentive that might work is using relief of the transfer tax as a means to accomplish this. This won’t solve the problem, but it will help.
Hopefully the town looks at this option seriously.
