Vail Daily letter: Deserving honoree

The staff of Vail Public Library would like to congratulate Magdalena (Magda) King, assistant general manager of The Antlers at Vail, on winning the Colorado Association of Libraries’ Community Partnership Award for 2016. The Community Partnership Award recognizes achievement in planning and implementing collaborative library programs or services between Colorado libraries, or between a Colorado library and a business, organization, group or individual.

Magda was nominated for this award by the staff of Vail Public Library, with support from her employer and other individuals and organizations with which she works. Magda is an enthusiastic and tireless advocate for continuing education and personal development opportunities for her staff. During the course of the past few years, The Antlers and Vail Public Library have formed an ongoing partnership through which the hotel staff participates in various library classes and events. This partnership was developed in large part due to Magda’s efforts to collaborate with the library and to promote the use of library services among her staff. Examples of the work that Magda has done for the Antlers’ staff with Vail Public Library and elsewhere within the community include: a Spanish Book Club, Spanish/English financial literacy education through Common Cents for Colorado at Vail Public Library, on-site English as a second language classes through The Literacy Project, assistance and support in completion of GEDs through Colorado Mountain College, and support toward achieving individual citizenship status.

Magda will be honored at an awards luncheon during the annual Colorado Association of Libraries conference on Oct. 21.

All of us at Vail Public Library are pleased and honored that the Colorado Association of Libraries chose a member of the Vail community to receive this award. We cannot think of a more deserving person than Magda King!
