Vail Daily letter: Donovan for Senate

I would like to express my support for Kerry Donovan in her bid for the 5th District Colorado State Senate.

Having known Kerry and her family for most of my life I would like to share with you their long family history of public service. They have a strong sense of family and the needs of our communities.

Kerry Donovan has been an outstanding member of our community since she was a young child. She established a stellar attendance record while in school and as a Vail Town Council member. As a Town of Vail council member she held her ground on tough decisions and worked hard to bring forward issues that needed to be addressed. She has proven her ability to communicate with the community.

Kerry’s commitment to our community was revealed when she became a Vail Ski and Snowboard Academic Tutorial tutor. She then became the director of academics for the Ski and Snowboard Academy. During this time she was also serving on the Vail Town Council, the Vail Valley Foundation, and as the director of the Minturn Community Fund.

Kerry was raised and still resides in Vail. Her family came to Vail in its early days developing a family business. They raised three children and helped to shape Vail into what it is today.

The Mounsey and Donovan families arrived in Vail with a long history of service to our community and to our nation.

Maj. William B. Mounsey, United States Army retired, served our country in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

Judge Thomas C. Donovan was a Cook County, Ill., judge

John F. Donovan served as a multi-term Town Council member as well as on many boards. He was also a Vail Ski School supervisor for many years and continues to give free mountain tours.

Diana Mounsey Donovan also served on the Town Council for several terms as well as other town boards.

John E. Donovan taught at Battle Mountain High School in Eagle-Vail.

Matt Donovan now owns and operates the business started by his parents and continues the tradition of supporting community activities and nonprofits throughout the county in a big way.

Kerry Donovan became the academic director for Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy and while attending the University of Notre Dame was an academic tutor.

Having grown up with such a strong family commitment towards community service, I feel that Kerry Donovan is the best candidate for the 5th District Colorado State Senate. She will represent all of us well and make a better Colorado.

Please join me and cast your vote for the future.

Vote Donovan for the Colorado State Senate.
