Vail Daily letter: Franciose for coroner
It is a quaint anachronism that our coroner is elected by the populace rather than appointed by a committee of knowledgeable selectors, but we all recognize that’s part of the charm of living in the “old West.” So long as we do have to go to the polls for our coroner, let’s try to make the best choice we can for a position that, during its term, can profoundly affect tens of lives. Although Sue Franciose is a nurse, the coroner need not be a medic since the declaration of death is not part of the coroner’s responsibilities. But, to be effective, the coroner should be a compassionate and caring individual, and one who is willing to work with families to help to bring about the best result from a traumatic event. Sue Franciose is a go-getter, no matter what role she is performing — information hound on the mountain, head of fund-raising for numerous cancer charity events, firm but loving mother of a rambunctious 9-year-old, or doting wife of one of our renowned and most civic-minded surgeons. Sue is a go-getter who will not hesitate to give far more than required to ensure that every possible need is fulfilled for those in need at a time of personal crisis.
