Vail Daily letter: Gypsum Daze Run/Walk
Once again it’s the time of year for Gypsum Daze and the Gypsum Daze 5K Run/Walk. For the 22nd year the 5K will be a feature of the Gypsum Daze celebration along with a pancake breakfast, parade, car show, family sports shooting, country and Western concert and much, much more.
In 1995 this event started with two runners and about five walkers. Today we typically host 200 participants complete with a drawing afterwards featuring prizes like rounds of golf at the Gypsum Creek Golf Course, a barbecue dinner at your home for 16 people put on by Steve’s Barbecue and of course certificates and gifts from local businesses. The value of the approximately 100 prizes approaches $4,000. All runners and walkers as well as volunteers for the race are eligible for the drawing (you must be present to win).
There are plaques for the top finishers and ribbons for age group winners and the first three walkers.
The Gypsum Daze 5K starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday July 16 at the Gypsum Town Hall and winds through the streets of Gypsum finishing where you started.
Proceeds of the event are donated to the Gypsum Library for the purchase of children’s books.
