Vail Daily letter: Harvey for sheriff

I am a proud unaffiliated (independent), registered voter and will be casting my vote for Daric Harvey to be our next Eagle County sheriff. Allow me to explain why.

As an unaffiliated voter, I like to gather information about candidates, weigh their qualifications, speak to them if possible and make what I believe is an educated decision that reflects my opinion of which person is not just right for me but for my community. I believe Daric Harvey is the right person at the right time for the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office. Please allow me to explain why.

A couple of Mondays ago I saw ads for both candidates in the Vail Daily. For the first time they were positioned next to one another. The disparity was obvious. Mr. Harvey’s credentials were laid out before me, including a link where I could read his complete resume. That’s transparency in my opinion. Mr. van Beek’s used three catch words that did not speak with detail to his experience or plan for the office should he be elected. Like others, I have looked for Mr. van Beek’s resume without success. I don’t mean to imply anything, but this was part of my selection process.

Mr. Harvey’s ads have provided me with information about dedication to an adopted community. His work with Bright Future Foundation on behalf of the victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault and the Police Explorers to mentor our youth have made me feel as though I could do more. Daric Harvey’s resume, it’s on his website, provided me with a level of detail that I was not expecting. It also showed me that he has the very unique qualifications necessary to lead a team of law enforcement professionals and to do so in a way that will protect the citizens of Eagle County at a safety level but also a financial one.

So there it is, my reasoning for casting a ballot for Daric Harvey to be our next Eagle County sheriff.
