Vail Daily letter: Harvey for sheriff

My name is Alan Hernandez and graduated from Battle Mountain High School last year. I am a current student at Colorado Mesa University studying criminology. I was indecisive about what career I wanted to pursue. I then decided to make a small step that would then change my life and goals. That step was joining the Eagle County Police Explorer Program almost two years ago. There is where I met Daric Harvey. He was just starting this program and had reached out to young people from all over the county. I knew I wanted to be part of it the way he explained that law enforcement is about service and wanted us to lead our own program. From that point on Daric Harvey inspired me and fueled my passion to become involved in law enforcement. Throughout the explorers program I learned numerous skills and traits ranging from CPR, verbal de-escalation, arrest control, ethics, and so on. I also became a leader in the program and helped to mentor the newer members.

All these skills have helped me out significantly when it came to finding jobs. However, Harvey has also taught me about a strong work ethic, outstanding honesty and courage, leadership and perseverance. Daric Harvey is a great role model, not just for me but for the community as well.

Daric Harvey is now running for sheriff of Eagle County. Thinking about how he changed my life, I can’t imagine a better person to be elected sheriff.
