Vail Daily letter: Miller for surveyor

I want to encourage your vote for Kelly Miller, the unaffiliated candidate for the position of Eagle County surveyor. The county surveyor should not be a partisan position. Technical ability, high ethical standards and experience should be the only qualifications you consider when voting for this position. Kelly exceeds in all of these areas and currently serves as my deputy.

The county surveyor is a part-time position, and the state statutes specifically allow the county surveyor to have other employment. The fact that Kelly is already an employee of the County Engineering Department will save the taxpayers approximately $25,000 per year by not having to provide a benefit package for this position. Kelly would not have a conflict of interest serving as the county surveyor. I served eight years on the State Board of Licensure for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors. I can assure you that a licensed land surveyor who obtains different results based upon who he represents will not remain licensed for long.

Kelly is always available and willing to share information with members of the public and other surveyors. Whenever asked about surveying situations that need to be handled by a private surveying company, Kelly provides the names of several companies familiar with the area in question. Again, he would have no conflict of interest.

I have served as your county surveyor for the past 12 years and decided not to run for a fourth term. Please join me in supporting Kelly Miller, the very best candidate for your new county surveyor.
