Vail Daily letter: Not the first

In response to the article in the Vail Daily on Saturday written by your Daily staff on the report of Dan Shields, I quote, “I am proud to be part of an exciting new chapter in Eagle history by providing the first senior living community in the area,” I must set the record straight.

In the late ’80s a new affordable senior housing development of 36 individual apartments known as the Golden Eagle apartments was built in Eagle at the end of Broadway Street. Then, a few years ago, 15 more senior apartments were built at the end of the same property known as Seniors On Broadway.

Over the years this property has been honored by the state of Colorado as Property of the Year three different times. This award was based on appearance of the property, satisfaction of the tenants, and success of management.

The community also enjoys a large senior center in the middle of our neighborhood where the tenants can participate in gourmet lunches, parties, barbecues, exercise every day in the large exercise room, a small library, book club, community gardens, bingo and cards, and bus service to shopping and post office.

I am blessed and grateful to live in this community.
