Vail Daily letter: Not voting for Bettis

I had a similar experience as Gaby Sirotkin (Letters to the Editor, Oct. 1) on March 18, 2011, when my husband passed away unexpectedly of an apparent massive heart attack while skiing on Vail Mountain with our 11-year-old son. While I was in the hospital room, saying goodbye to my husband for the last time, Kara Bettis was right outside with a sheriff’s officer and a counselor, speaking very loudly, and appeared to be laughing while commenting that my husband’s father had a heart attack at 48, so “what should we have expected?” Later, Kara, who was dressed in ski clothes and had been called off the ski mountain for this, said to me, “You don’t want to have an autopsy done, do you?” I was in shock and couldn’t possibly answer that question at that time! It is the responsibility of the coroner to determine if an autopsy is necessary, not a grieving widow!

I don’t personally know either of the candidates who are running for coroner, but I am not voting for the candidate who seems to have become calloused and immune to the pain, shock and grief of someone who has lost a loved one.
