Vail Daily letter: Reason for the season
We have a wish of the season for everyone out there: That you would reconsider whether there really is a reason for this season. Isaiah wrote this famous quote about 700 B.C., “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 King James, used by Handel in his “Messiah,” of course.)
A child is born for us and his name shall be called the mighty God?! How would this have made any sense at the time? It is an amazing prophesy of what occurred 700 years later. Isaiah goes on to say that his kingdom will have no end?! That’s just what Jesus tells us, that his kingdom is coming, so we need to get ready. So our wish is that you investigate for yourself this child who came and whom we remember at this time of year. We can give you some places to look depending on where you are in your own journey (firstname.lastname@example.org) .We wish all a joyous Christmas!
