Vail Daily letter: Successful event
With Beaver Creek Mountain at peak foliage, Sept. 18 was the perfect day for the eighth annual Hike, Wine and Dine. Over 400 hikers of all ages gathered to enjoy the scenery, delicacies prepared by some of the area’s finest chefs and a healthy walk for a great cause. The event raised over $128,000 with proceeds benefiting Jack’s Place and Shaw Regional Cancer Center, helping offset the operating costs of lodging for our cancer patients and their caregivers on a pay-what-you-can basis. Thanks to dollars raised through events like this, Jack’s Place has provided over 9,000 nights of respite since opening in 2007.
Hike, Wine & Dine has been made possible each year by the tireless leadership of Sue Franciose and the Shaw Outreach Team. We are grateful to Sue and the Shaw Outreach Team for making it such a success. Heartfelt thanks to our presenting sponsor, the Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group, as well as many other generous sponsors. Thanks to the talented chefs of 8100 Mountainside Bar, Beaver Creek Chophouse, Dusty Boot, Green Elephant Juicery, Grouse Mountain Grill, The Metropolitan, Osprey and Rimini. Finally, thank you to the supportive staff and everyone who made time to participate in this fun and worthwhile fundraiser.
I am continually reminded of the wonderful things made possible by the efforts of generous and caring people. The community’s support of Jack’s Place and Shaw is overwhelming. In eight years, Hike, Wine & Dine has raised over $500,000 for the cancer caring lodge and our cancer center. It’s truly remarkable to be able to offer patients and their caregivers respite in the stunning and nurturing setting of Jack’s Place, at no cost.
A cancer diagnosis is devastating. However, thanks to the vision, hard work and generosity of our community, Vail Valley Medical Center is able to offer comprehensive cancer care at Shaw Regional Cancer Center and lodging for patients and their caregivers at Jack’s Place.
